Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) -- Decreases pitta dosha especially in digestive, circulatory and excretory systems. Used with anemia, bleeding disorders, hepatitis, gastritis, and colitis; helps regulate blood sugars and many other issues. One of the fruits in triphala.

Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna) –- This is a rejuvenative tonic for the heart. Strengthens and tones the heart and other soft tissues and bones. Also aids in absorption and digestive issues.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera dunal) –- Good for the nervous, respiratory, and reproductive systems. This is a tonic and wonderful for giving strength in muscular and nerve weakness. Don't take when congested.

Bala (Sida cordifolia Linn.) –- Analgesic, aphrodisiac, nervine, rejuvenative tonic. Mostly used for the heart but also nerve pain and arthritis and sexual debility.

Bhringaraj (Eclipta alba Hassk.) -– The anti-aging herb used to maintain and rejuvenate hair, teeth, bones, sight, hearing and memory, liver, skin and spleen. Can cause chills.

Bhumyamalaki (Phyllanthus niruri Linn.) -– Supports digestive and reproductive systems. Bitter and astringent, it decreases pitta and kapha in hepatitis, edema, diabetes, and jaundice.

Bibhitaki (Terminalia belerica Roxb.) -– Digestive, mostly for Kapha issues; rejuvenative. Improves voice, lungs, and vision. Removes stones and parasites. Part of triphala.

Brahmi (Hydrocotyle asiatica Linn.) -– Adrenal and blood purifier; boosts immunity. Nervine tonic, increases awareness, and opens the mind. Helps release addictions. High doses may cause headache, spaciness.

Chitrak (Plumbago zeylanica Linn.) -– Best for improving digestive fire. Strong; helps to eliminate fats and sugars. Pitta (liver) cleansing. Very hot. Small doses only. Do not use when pregnant.

Gokshura (Tribulis terrestris Linn.) -– Diuretic, aphrodisiac, analgesic, tonic. Good for most kidney/bladder issues, diabetes, and rheumatism. Also tonic in reproductive system.

Guduchi (Tinosporia cordifolia Miers) -– Bitter tonic good in fever, chronic rheumatism, jaundice, diabetes. It boosts immunity.

Guggul (Balsamodendron mukul Hook.) -– Analgesic, astringent, expectorant, nervine. It increases white blood cell count and is very clearing. Most often mixed with other herbs. Do not use with acute rashes or kidney infection.

Gurmar (Gymnema sylvestre) –- Used for sugar cravings; clears liver and pancreas and is therefore used in diabetes and weight loss programs.

Haritaki (Terminalia chebula Retz.) -– Rejuvenative, astringent, nervine tonic that's good for absorption, voice, asthma, cough, jaundice, parasites, and nervous disorders. Part of triphala. Don't take if pregnant, dehydrated, exhausted, or too weak.

Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi DC) -– Brain tonic, sedative, and emmenagogue. It has a special way of dealing a chaotic and anxious mind, skin, reproductive and other challenges. Hard to find.

Kapikachu (Mucuna pruriens Bak) -– Tonic, aphrodisiac, astringent, nervine. Can be taken as a food with rice or beans; strengthens many body systems. Source of L-dopa. Do not take when congested.

Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia Linn.) -– Astringent and diuretic. Helps with stones, clears organs like liver, pancreas, kidneys and gall bladder, and beneficial in menopause and amenorrhea.

Shankpushpi (Canscora decussate Roem) -- Nervine, sedative, brain tonic, and rejuvenative; used to calm anxiety/worry, and mental fatigue. Improves memory and mental clarity.

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus Wild) -- Tonic, rejuvenative, nutritive, demulcent, antacid. It is traditionally used to support the female organs, prevent sexual debility, help menopausal conditions, stomach ulcers, inflammation, and chronic fevers.

Sitopaladi (rock candy, bamboo, cardamom, cinnamon) -- Used for colds, flu, fevers, and coughs. Effective in tridoshic bronchial congestion.

Skullcap (Scutellaria spp.) -- Nervine, antispasmodic, sedative, and alterative. Has an anti-toxic effect helpful in addiction recovery. Used as a sedative for nervousness, irritability, and insomnia

Slippery Elm (Ulmus fulva) -- Nutritive, demulcent, and expectorant. Used for inflammation and irritation. Useful for skin, throat, and colon.

Trikatu (ginger, black pepper, pippali) -- Stimulant, diaphoretic, and carminative. Improves digestive fire which improves health, absorption, and assimilation. Supports metabolism of fats and toxin reduction.

Triphala (amalaki, haritaki, bibhitaki) -- Tonic, rejuvenative, and laxative. Balances all three doshas by cleansing the digestive system of toxins. Used to improve the complexion, reduce excess weight, and strengthen the urinary tract.

Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) -- Known as “Holy Basil,” it is a diaphoretic, antibacterial, and nervine. Brings clarity and purity to the body and mind. Supports the emotional and physical heart.

Tumeric (Curcuma longa) -- Astringent, hemostatic, antiseptic. Powerful antiflammtory that purifies the blood and enhances digestion.

Valerian (Valeriana spp.) -- nervine, antispasmodic, sedative. For treating headaches, insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, menstrual problems, nervous stomach, and hysteria. Can create withdrawal symptoms with prolonged use.

Vidanga (Embelia ribes) -- Anthelmintic, carminative, expectorant, and laxative. Used to improve digestion and remove intestinal worms, parasites, and obesity.

Yogaraj Guggulu (Guggulu Musta Chitrak, Triphala, Pippali fruit, Ajowan Vidanga, Gokshura, Black Cumin, Cumin, Cedar, Cardamom, rock salt, Coriander, Ginger, Black Pepper, Cinnamon) -- Used for Vata type pain in the joints and nervous system.
